My Birthday Par-tay!

It was my 26th birthday on Saturday, so I decided to celebrate with a little costume party. Actually, my sister Kristi and I *shared* it, because we were born 2 years and 2 days apart. I used to LOATHE sharing my birthday parties with her...especially my 18th and her 16th-mainly because I looked like a loser because she had so many friends there and I had...well, not so many!

I decided to dress as Dita von Teese, which I'm sure will not come as a particular surprise to anyone LOL!

This is me and my baby sis Mirandah-she went as Lady Gaga:

My sister Kristi went as Amy Winehouse...minus the drug addiction:
My Dad made a pretty handsome pirate, and my baby girl looked like Denis the Menace! :
My Mama the Gypsy woman:
And her best friend/blonde twin/sharer of brain, Cher...also as a gypsy woman!! (And they didn't even know what each other was going to dress as! I swear they're like conjoined twins haha!!)

And my gorgeous brother Scott, whom I don't get to see too often!:
My 2nd youngest sister Annie, asleep on my couch....piker!!:
We got Scotty drunk enough to make him up alllll pretty!! He does drag a little TOO well....:
Oh so so pretty!!

God they could be sisters....
I love this photo of Kristi:
Can you tell we're related??:
Reprezent biyatches!!!!

...and I didn't even get drunk!!!!

More goodies...

My computer has not been liking me the last couple of days, and has just taken F-O-R-E-V-E-R to upload photos.
Anyway, here's some more of my awesome vintage haul!

A fire-screen with a sailing ship on it-will come up nice with a good polish-$10

A Bebarfeld's treadle sewing machine...with bluebirds on it!! BLUEBIRDS!!!
I got it at a garage sale for $100, and it came with it's original book (which is adorable) and the original attachments case. The sewing machine is from about 1928-1930.

I got this dressing table (which I assume would have originally had a mirror) for FREE! I will strip and stain it, and put vintage handles back on it, because at the moment, although it does look kinda funky, silver green and red spraypaint kinda wont look that wonderful in my house.
More to come if my computer behaves...

The best week EVAH!!!!

This week I have had THE BEST LUCK at op-shops and vintage stores, and garage sales too!!!! So I will have a couple of pic-heavy posts to show you all my finds!!

Vintage mirror-$15 op shop
Lamp-(50's??) $6.00 op-shop

I saw these gorgeous little clip-on earrings at the frame/vintage store across the road from me. They were $20, but since I had been in a few weeks ago admiring them, she gave them to me for $15!

Girl pic with gold frame-not totally sold on the pic, but I will use the frame. $3 op-shop

I fell in love with this picture. Probably because there is a watertower in it. I have a bit of a thing for water towers (There used to be a big one directly behind my house growing up. I used to stare at it for ages and it always put me at ease for some reason. It got pulled down nearly 10 years ago, but I still have dreams about it! Weird? Anyway-$3 op-shop

1950's drawers $10 ebay

These are Nallyware-ish canisters that I got from the op-shop. They had $12 on them, but they had a purple ticket, and it was half-price on purple ticket items that day. Score!!!

My best find that day-a vintage kitchen dresser! I've wanted one for ages!!! I got it for $60 from a salvos furniture place, and the guy threw in free delivery, AND a box of the crockery that was displayed on it LOL...I thought he was joking when he asked if I wanted it :D

I'll post some more of my finds tomorrow....I've got HEAPS to show off!!! Stay tuned xxx

New shorter 'do...

I got a few inches hacked off my hair the other day...

I just got this DVD and book set the other day. It's called Lost Highways. It follows a local photographer, Richard Szymczuk, as he photographs old milkbars and service stations, which are rapidly disappearing from my hometown's landscape. There has been some beautiful mid-century architecture and signage that has been lost and would be long forgotten if Richard hadn't documented it here. The music in the doco is awesome...and I was told that it was done by the same guy that did the music for the movie "Chopper" with Eric Bana. I had the pleasure of meeting Richard after he hand delivered the book and DVD to me after Australia Post nearly lost my money order I had sent to him. Thought it was safer that way!

Here are the shoes that I got fromebay last week:

And I scored these from the op-shop for $3-I don't care if they look like granny shoes, I think they're cute, and they're comfy as hell!!!

Speaking of op-shopping, Mother Dearest and I are going tomorrow....yay!! Looking for a display cabinet she can put her china dolls in so I can have my 50's cabinet back for my newly painted study...yes, I finally finished it!!. And that room is now OFFICIALLY off limits to children. It is going to be my sewing/craft room/retro haven...oh the possibilities...

Flavoured knobs and other oddities...

Okay, so this morning I was making my son's lunch when I realised that the ham and chicken loaf I was putting on his sandwiches was called a flavoured knob. Really Coles? A flavoured knob? I bet they laughed their arses off labelling that. Or maybe I'm just peurile...mmm-mmm! Can't wait to have me some flavoured knob! I looove eating flavoured knob....hahahaha I amuse myself!

Sadly, op-shopping fell through today, but I didn't mind because my awesome new corset came in the mail:

I haven't had the heart to tell my husband that DS3 was actually the result of a night of passion I spent with Austin Powers-yeah baby!!
When I took this picture, I'm *sure* that DS3 was saying something about getting "free for free" ??? Hehehehehe :D

My haul from Daylesford

These are the things I picked up on my little trip to Daylesford. There are some great antique stores there-alas I ran out of time to look around the Mill Market there, but I live 10 mins away from the Geelong store, so it's not too bad. There is an awesome shop in the main street of Daylesford called Lost in the Fifties...pretty cool place!!

Retro flip book with funny sayings-I already have a different one of these, I love them!
A gorgeous vintage mohair cloche hat-$10 from an antique store. Its pretty old but in fantastic condition!!
A DVD called "Showbiz goes to war" $10 from Lost in the Fifties

Laminated "Bop Girl" poster-$10

An Andrews Sisters cd. I've been playing it in my car. DS5 declared it "crap".

Polkadot cats-eye sunglasses

5 retro mugs (huuuge mugs, I might add!) $5.95 from The Magic Pudding. I reckon you'd get at least 1 and a half to 2 cups of tea from one mug!Back to school for DS5 tomorrow..oh how I wish I could send DS3 too...LOL. Then perhaaps I wouldn't have to contend with curry powder all over the floor and him walking around with a toilet plunger stuck to him-don't ask. Ah, he is a spirited lad!!
Op-shopping tomorrow!!
And hopefully meeting up with a new friend later in the week-hello Ms Danger ;)

Ballarat, Daylesford and Dragging children...

Had a busy week!!
On Sunday I went to Ballarat with my mate Rach to watch a photographer at work.

He was taking pics for a corsetier in a cute little retro-style cafe. He took a few pics of me too!
On the way there, Rach's tape-player/mp3 adaptor started mucking up, so she put a head cleaner tape in. Ah, yeah, not such a good idea. Tape jammed. Since she declared that there was no effing way she was driving to Ballarat with no music, we were pulled over by the side of the road trying to get this bloody tape out using all manner of gadgets. Like forks...

...and screwdrivers.

Finally got it out though. Success!!

Monday me and the kids went to Daylesford with my parents and sisters.

First "family" holiday we've ever had!
My Mum and Dad...

Me and my youngest sis Mirandah...

Dad and I...

Remind me never to take my 3 yo ANYWHERE EVER AGAIN though!! Other than that we had a good time. We had a good browse around the shops and I got a pretty cool vintage haul, which I'll post tomorrow. We went to the lookout tower, and mum and I freaked out as soon as we got to the top and came straight back down. We're not so good with heights!

Then we went to the convent and after my 3yo got a bad case of "floppy-child-syndrome" (wouldn't walk, much to the amusement of passers-by) and I got sick of dragging him (much to the amusement of passers-by)I cracked it, put him back in the car and went back to the caravan.
We went to Maldon and Castlemaine the next day and had a ride on the train. It was SUPPOSED to be the steam train, but it broke down and we had to have the diesel instead. The kids loved it. First time DS3 was quietly enraptured the whole time we'd been away. He fell asleep with his head on the windowsill after sitting there with his head halfway out the window the whole time haha!
Three cheeky monkeys...See no Evil, Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil (yes, I'm aware they're around the wrong way!) L-R Tane, Mirandah and Annie.
